*Nice TeamWork bro* *Best atmosphere for a group project ever!* Remember the story of WORK NO.100? Not the porn one....the normal one.... Last week I have a basic idea of 'A homeless illustrator get his magic sketchbook which could turn everything real' After that, our group has discuss about the structure, characters and finding reference this week. Then, My groupmate and I drew several pages of storyboard.

About the storyboard, I changed the presentation method I used to draw

^This is the storyboard for the University admission test

^ Storyboard of an air purifier commission

^Storyboard for my personal work
So....Have you notice what problem with these storyboard?
Well....I used this way to draw my video shooting storyboard...then my groupmate HATE me BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL JUST SUITABLE FOR PERSONAL WORK!
Firstly, if I draw them roughly, the shadow cannot be shown probably Secondly, Line art must be well done to clarify where are the shadow, which mean it taken more time Then, I always use hand draw which means if I had similar scene, I must draw it again to show the motion
Finally, it's hard to communicate with group mate since almost all the important information like BGM, Dialogue are missing. So this time, I decide to find a new way to clarify the storyboard. Remember I have been a intern in a animation studio last holiday? I referenced some of their storyboard(I can't post them because it's the copyright problem) and they have lots of Japanese storyboard reference there....then I decided...

To get a storyboard book of Makoto Shinkai! If you ever watch YOUR NAME, you'll know there's lots of complicated camera and editing here. So I'm curious how he communicate with his worker. (I would like to buy AKIRA or any work from Satoshi Kon....but they are way toooo expensive in TaoBao! Then my friend told me they sold cheaper in Amazon...hum...I might check it out later haha) Then I was shocked how well organized the storyboard are!

Firstly, his format of the storyboard are all vertical, the column of Action Notes, Dialog and Sound effect has no horizontal line. Which means it allows you to draw something else to describe that cut
Secondly, he used blue, yellow, red instead of just gradient. That could clarify where are the shadow and the light. Then, he use In Out frame to show camera movement. Finally, the text are all digital and easy to understand.
That is incredibly inspired what should I draw a storyboard for a group project! Then I re-draw my own storyboard by copying his format (Feel free to download it, it very useful)

Then I start sketch the story our group has discussed...

Once Upon a time, there is a homeless illustrator always drawing his friend ASA(means healer)

Then, he helps a poor old man but failed xD
The old man gave him a sketchbook to show how grateful he is.

Then he start drawing ASA...ASA just came out from his sketching!

Then the illustrator was happy to see his friend has came to the reality. Then he go help other people with his magical power

After day by day... this kind action has been notified by media. Then illustrator has getting famous and forget about ASA

Then, the illustrator only draw for rich people. But one day, one of his rich friend bully an artist on the street. That reminds him if he keep drawing things for rich people, he will become one of the bad guy.
He go find ASA, but Asa is fading away...the illustrator keep drawing food, money, cars.....But Asa doesn't need them at all... then, he is disappeared. The illustrator start thinking what he really want then...A world which let him to draw freely Finally, he lives with Asa in the world he drawn. We discuss this story to our tutor, then she point out a serious problem in our story. Is That Drawing For Rich People A Bad Thing? Like he could just help drawing things which benefit the poor with rich guy. That means the climax of why the illustrator want to find Asa again is not making sense. And that event must be related to negative things.... like he start drawing drugs...weapons...stuff like that That element must make him feel stressful and what to draw freely like he used to be And things make him want to give up rich life...then jump into the fiction world.... My groupmate and I has been struggling for several hours....we came up some idea but still not enough Then we decide to go home and think about it haha hummm...I got some thought while I was typing this blog....I hope this would be a incredible story I have ever done! XD With my LOVELY Groupmate! Ohhh about the feedback of the storyboard organization.....well THEY LOVE IT! It's very well organized and I don't have to really present what is going on by my mouth, they just get it with the image...I'm so glad! THANKS MAKOTO SHINKAI!
